Thousands of local high school students all around the country are currently undergoing their Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examinations. However, like previous years, this year’s examination comes with its own share of challenges and predicaments.
On Monday (5th February), the students sat for their History papers, with the first portion being the multiple-choice question paper and the second being the written and essay portion. However, on the day of the exams, a TikTok video circulated online, allegedly containing all the questions for the essay portion of the History examinations. According to SPM exam-takers, the questions were identical and even had a barcode that proved their legitimacy.

Many students were shocked to discover someone had posted the entire question paper on social media. Most netizens wondered how the TikTok user could get a hold of the exam papers, complete with answers. One Twitter user speculated that the question paper belonged to a teacher based on the markings. However, the TikTok user was possibly a student who got a hold of the paper and shared it online. Many exam-takers expressed anger and frustration over the TikTok user’s action, condemning them for leaking the question for social clout.
Many students and parents have urged the Ministry of Education to take action against the TikTok user for leaking the exam questions. Many also questioned if the leak would result in students having to resit for the paper, as that was how the ministry previously handled the issue of leaked exam papers. However, many voiced their displeasure if that was the case, saying they could no longer sit for another History paper.
The ministry has yet to address the issue – but what do you think about this? Do you think the students should retake the test? And should the TikTok user be punished for the leaks?
