Landslides are, unfortunately, not an uncommon occurrence, especially in the highlands area. And Cameron Highlands is no stranger to it, especially given this rainy weather.
Reportedly, a landslide occurred in Cameron Highlands earlier this morning (26th January) around 2am. Five people were allegedly buried during the landslide and regretfully, one has already been found and confirmed dead.
According to the Pahang Fire and Rescue Department, the landslide occurred in Blue Valley, burying four men and one woman at the scene. Personnel were immediately dispatched to the area after receiving the distress call at 2:51am.
However, there was a delay in their arrival as the landslide had caused a traffic obstruction. The firefighters had to hike three kilometers to reach the area before they could began the rescue operation.
They did manage to find and extract one of the buried victims, but unfortunately, the man had no signs of life when found. The identity of the victim is reportedly yet to be confirmed. Currently, the search and rescue operation is still ongoing for the remaining victims.
Our hearts go out to those who are missing loved ones involved in the landslide. We sincerely hope they will be found soon. This isn’t the first time Cameron Highlands has suffered from landslides, and sadly, we doubt it will be the last.
