It’s always best to do some research before buying something or paying for a service online as there’s always a possibility of being scammed. Yesterday (Tuesday, 23rd January), a Facebook user, who wishes to be known as Sofia, came to us with her story of an alleged scam that happened on Facebook.
As seen in the screenshots below, she and other users called out a dessert company for allegedly scamming them after never having received their orders. This all started back in October last year when Sofia ordered some assorted chocolates worth RM162 through Chillax Ice Station’s Facebook page. As mentioned, the customer never received them after waiting for more than 2 weeks.
“I DM-ed them in November to ask for an update on my order but there was no reply. I asked again the following week and they said that I would receive it within a week. Again, I did not receive my order,” she told Hype. Sofia wanted to give the Malaysian-owned company a chance by waiting a little bit longer but after weeks of still not receiving her order, she asked for a refund.
“They told me that I’d receive my refund soon. They’ve kept delaying for some reason and I no longer have confidence in them. When I and several others called them out in the customer Facebook group, as a potential scammer, they had the audacity to gaslight me?” As seen in the screenshots, the customer discussed the issue with the company.
She offered to remove the comment while also expressing her disappointment in the service. However, the privacy setting on the post was changed, which left her unable to do what they requested her to do. Chillax Ice Station claimed that it was Facebook’s doing after being triggered by the word ‘Scammer’ in the post.
Sofia also provided screenshots of a conversation she had with another user (known as Nur), who suggested to her that she should make the story viral or file a police report in order to pressure the Chillax Ice Station into giving the refunds as promised.
“To be honest, it’s about integrity and transparency. I just don’t want others to experience what we experienced so they should be careful if they ever decide to order from this store.” Sofia said. At the time of writing (Wednesday, 24th January), the disappointed customer told us the company promised that she would receive her money back by 30th January. It’s truly unfortunate that Sofia and the rest had to go through this.
