As Malaysians gear up for Chinese New Year, YouTubers are already releasing their CNY music videos, including Phei Yong (陈培永). He and his group, better known as 5蛋 (5 Dan) recently dropped their CNY song to great reception from fans, and it’s easy to see why.
The “新年Beng Beng Beng” MV has captured the hearts and ears of netizens everywhere. From its catchy tune to timeless lyrics, there’s a lot to love about this MV. But the star of the MV still goes to Phei Yong, thanks to his stunningly pretty looks when he cross-dressed as a girl!
5蛋 consisting on Phei Yong and his friends, Chang Yong (常勇), Wen Shu Sen (溫舒森), Chang Le (常樂) and Danny Koo (許佳麟) have been making CNY songs for six years consecutively. Each one has been a banger and “新年Beng Beng Beng” is no different. It’s eye-catching from the onset, what with it’s colourful displays of Malaysian life. Of course, the quintet and their striking costumes help with that.
Be it Chang Yong’s transformation as an ‘auntie’, Phei Yong’s debut as a thug with durian-like hair and Shu Sen’s spectacular acting as a chicken rice shop owner, viewers are consistently entertained by their looks and antics. Local actor and MY FM DJ Jack Lim (林德荣)’s surprise appearance as a serious follower of Chang Le’s ‘ah beng’ persona was definitely a plus with his ginger hair and leopard print shirt.
But, Phei Yong still beat them all by a mile when he appeared on screen playing Shu Sen’s daughter. The popular internet celeb pulled off dressing as a pretty girl with pigtails, which acting coy with a lollipop in hand. Phei Yong somehow managed to look even prettier when he donned a wedding dress to get married to Chang Le!
Since being uploaded 20 hours ago, at the time of writing it has garnered over 489,000 views. Fans have also expressed their delight at the video, with many highlighting their favourite parts. Some admitted to being worried it would not be as good as previous years. “The preview looked very lala (gay), and I was afraid of being disappointed, but the result was very good!” one said.
Several were quick to tease Phei Yong about his cross-dressing stint. “Shu Sen’s daughter (is) very cute,” some mentioned, while another said: “I didn’t expect that the 2024 female version of Phei Yong would be (so) beautiful and even get married.” Others also praised the group for going all out regardless of their image.
“新年Beng Beng Beng” is certainly a delight to listen to and fans will also be happy to see Chang Yong and Phei Yong in the same screen again after he and Phei Yong split ways to continue their career. Well, we’re certainly be listening to it a lot more for our upcoming CNY celebrations!
