Earlier this month, we shared multiple anecdotes from netizens about a now infamous uncle who hogged a seat on the LRT with his bag. Well, it turns out that our neighbours on the other side of the Causeway also have a similar issue.
TikTok user Dina Lee recently uploaded a video of an elderly woman bickering with another woman over a seat on an MRT coach in Singapore. According to the video, the fight started when the younger woman wanted the seat next to the old lady but the old lady apparently wouldn’t give it up because she said the seat was for her bag only.

The argument continued with the elder threatening to complain about the younger woman to the authorities, to which the woman said she was not afraid as she did nothing wrong. The woman argued back that she merely wanted to sit down because there were no more available seats in the MRT coach. As the video cuts off towards the end, it is not known what happened after the fight.
Netizens have reacted to the argument, mostly criticising the elderly for hogging up a seat on a crowded train for her bag. Some even called the older lady entitled, saying that MRT seats aren’t for bags. Some also lamented that seat-hogging is a common issue with elderly passengers, sharing some of their experiences on the train and the bus. However, others say the younger woman should’ve let the old lady be and looked for another seat in the coach instead of arguing in public.
What do you think about this issue? Was the old lady in the wrong? Or should the younger woman just let the issue go?
