Booking a homestay can be a hit and miss as there have been cases of homeowners allegedly scamming guests with the poor service and low quality of their units. However, most of the time guests are satisfied with their stay and would often show appreciation to the owners for their service.
These homestay guests, on the other hand, had the audacity to complain about something so trivial despite the homeowner’s generosity. Not only that, they also accused the owners of charging them the same price as a hotel for an overnight stay.
Yesterday (Monday, 18th December), the owner of the Memory Homestay Durian Tunggal in Melaka posted on their official Facebook page about their recent experience with ungrateful guests. The owner posted several screenshots of the WhatsApp conversation they had with the guest. At first, everything seemed to be going well and the owner even confirmed that many of the necessities provided at the house were free of charge.
Most guests would thank the owners for their generosity but these guests, however, showed the complete opposite reaction. As seen in the screenshots, the guests were upset by the “low quality” rice and even complained about the quantity and quality of the eggs and bread, saying that it wasn’t enough to feed them. “You charge your homestay the same price as a hotel but you couldn’t provide better rice for us? We paid RM250 for this?” the unnamed guest wrote.
The homeowners tried to defend themselves saying that RM250 is still pretty generous as no other homestay provides the same service as them. Apart from that, all rooms in the house are air-conditioned and guests were allowed to use the cooking supplies and ingredients and even eat the snacks provided. Unfortunately, the guest was still not satisfied and rudely responded to the owner before checking out.
The post quickly went viral with netizens defending the Memory Homestay Durian Tunggal owner saying that it was the guests who were being ungrateful for the wonderful service. Some argued that the price for the homestay is much cheaper compared to hotels as it was a house that could fit an entire family of 12.
We’re glad that netizens showed their support for the homestay owner and hopefully, they won’t encounter any rude and ungrateful guests in the future.
