We’ve seen some genius marketing schemes and some that backfired on the business – but where does this particular billboard stand?
Twitter user Timothy Tiah took to the platform to share about a digital advert he spotted at TTDI. At first glance, the plain advertisement seemed to be a public notice from an angry wife towards her cheating husband.
The billboard wrote, “Hi Kevin Teoh Chee Sing, you lying, cheating, overcompensating loser. Caught you at Jerry Coworking Space in TTDI! All on video. Choose a windowless room next time. Don’t call me. My lawyers will call you. Your (soon-to-be) wife, Shin Yi.”
Given the shocking message on the billboard, it didn’t take long for the photo to go viral, garnering attention from netizens. Some reacted to the billboard, saying Shin Yi must be so petty to rent out an entire billboard to shame her cheating husband. Others joke that the billboard is how rich people send a message. Many also said they’re rooting for the wife and want to learn about the backstory.
However, many noticed something peculiar about the billboard – specifically, the place name-dropped by the scorned wife. This revelation led many to believe the public shaming billboard was an advertisement for Jerry Coworking Space, which has multiple locations in Klang Valley. The coworking space is known for its many marketing campaigns and many said this was another unconventional yet brilliant move by the team to get more eyes on their business and advertise their services.
Upon further digging, we’ve discovered that the original poster for the tweet, Timothy, is the owner of Jerry Coworking Space. For many, this little fact further solidifies that the billboard is indeed another one of their many creative marketing stunts.
Of course, some weren’t convinced the billboard was merely an advertisement for the coworking space. Some said it’s still possible that the billboard was indeed from a woman who got cheated on, saying that such things can happen amongst the higher class circle. Some also pointed out a few other issues with the billboard, like one Twitter user who lamented that the advert is rather distasteful as it promotes the coworking space as a place for individuals to partake in extramarital affairs.
It doesn’t seem like Jerry nor “Kevin” have responded to the billboard – but what do you think about it? Do you think it’s a new way to expose an unfaithful partner? Or is it an advertisement?
