There is a distinct difference between petrol and diesel but if you’re unsure, then here’s a little bit of info. In petrol engines, the fuel and air are mixed together, and then compressed and ignited whereas in diesel engines, the air is compressed before the fuel is injected. Diesel is also heavier than petrol and, therefore, evaporates slower.
It’s okay if none of that makes sense to you but you should still take note of which fuel to use when refilling your car when the time comes. Also, have you wondered how oil Diesel got its name? You’re in luck cause Petronas Pulai Perdana has given customers a little bit of a history lesson on their official Facebook page.

In a video hosted by a man known as Pak Haji, he explained how Diesel got its name. “Along with the development of petrol or gasoline engines for vehicles in the past, there were also engineers who created large vehicle engines using oil that was not as hot as petrol,” he said.
Pak Haji also explained that the engines for the large vehicles at the time used diesel oil as they needed a different kind of fuel to operate them. As for how the fuel got the name, Diesel – it was actually named after the scientist and engineer who invented those large engines as well as the fuel itself, a German named Rudolf Diesel.
“Remember, Rudolf Diesel was the one who invited the engines and the oil, not to be mistaken with Hollywood actor Vin Diesel,” the content creator joked. After posting the video, many thanked Pak Haji for the brief history lesson. One was seemingly surprised that Diesel originated from Germany as they’ve always thought it was local for some reason. Guess that’s what happens when something has existed for so long that people never question its origins.
For additional information, Diesel was invented in 1892 from experiments conducted by Rudolf Diesel and no, Vin Diesel is not a descendant of Rudolf as his real name is Mark Sinclair. Have you always known this or is this brand new information to you?
