If you have never taken a flight before, know that many airlines, like AirAsia, require you to be on standby at the boarding gate at least 30 minutes before departure and that the gates often close 20 minutes before departure. Well, it seems this passenger didn’t get the memo.
According to the video on TikTok, the passenger was lamenting about missing his flight to Beijing, China, and was shaming two on-ground staff at KLIA2 for not opening the boarding gate. In the video, the passenger, believed to be Singaporean, said that he arrived 10 minutes before the flight’s scheduled departure time. He then threw a tantrum at the staffs, even “exposing” their work passes, saying he needed to make the incident viral because “it doesn’t make sense”.

Just like the man had hoped for, the incident did go viral – but no one was backing him up. Instead, almost everyone had pointed out that he was at fault for not being aware of when he should be at the boarding gate. Many explained that he should’ve been at the boarding gate at least 30 minutes before departure and that 10 minutes is considered too late. Netizens also praised the on-ground staff for doing their job, saying they did nothing wrong, unlike what the passenger implied.
If you’re curious, AirAsia’s website notes that passengers should be at the boarding gate at least 30 to 90 minutes before departure, depending on their flight. The airline also explains that their gates close 20 minutes before departure, adding that passengers who fail to be at the gate by then will not be allowed to board the flight. This notice is also available on all AirAsia-issued boarding passes.

The passenger also revealed that AirAsia had rescheduled him and his family to the next available flight. In his other video, the man gave a few tips to future passengers on how to not miss their flight at KLIA2, saying they should take the buggy and get travel insurance.
Of course, many comments reminded him of the most important tip: be early to the gate.
