Here in Malaysia, we have a few outlet malls that offer great deals on branded items ranging from footwear and apparel to jewellery and cosmetics. However, out of the many outlet malls in the country, netizens are starting to believe that the Freeport A’Famosa Outlet Mall might be the worst.
Twitter user @/Slainthayer wrote, “Freeport A’Famosa is such a sad attempt at outlet mall. Other than Instagram-worthy backdrops, it really is just a generic mall but worse (since it’s in rural Melaka). Can’t expect much when it’s 40+ km from Bandar Hilir.”
In a separate tweet, the user added, “I know the point of outlet mall is to be in the middle of nowhere. But I was expecting more branded stores, like how it is in Genting, JPO, or Mitsui KLIA.” The netizen said the shop selection made it seem like Freeport A’Famosa was just another mall in suburban Selangor, with the only branded stores available being Puma, Coach and Sembonia.
Freeport A’Famosa opened its doors to the public in January 2016 and is located adjacent to the main entrance of the A’Famosa Resort, a renowned tourist destination in Alor Gajah. Like most outlet malls, Freeport A’Famosa’s most notable feature is the Coach store built inside a real Boeing 747 plane, spanning over 4,100 square feet. Other brands that are available in the mall include Carlo Rino, Levi’s, Sacoor and Obermain.
The tweet sparked the debate amongst netizens, with most agreeing that the mall seemed pretty dead. Some attributed it to the lack of exciting brands and the nonstrategic location. Some said the brands there weren’t worth the trip because you can find them at any mall, while others opine that A’Famosa is too out of the way for everyone. However, the outlet mall does have some fans, mostly those who don’t like visiting crowded malls.
What do you think about Freeport A’Famosa? Do you agree or disagree with netizens?
