Once again, netizens are reminded of the true humble nature of our King, Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah, after he was spotted bringing the Prince of Monaco, Prince Albert II, to an unassuming palace for His Majesty’s state visit.
On 28th November, the National Palace of Malaysia held a state welcoming ceremony where the King and the Queen, Raja Permaisuri Agong Tunku Azizah, welcomed Prince Albert II and his delegation to Malaysia for a 4-day inaugural state visit. The Agong also took the opportunity to show Prince Albert II around his home state of Pahang, including a certain humble roadside cendol stall, Cendol Lily in Lanchang.
In a video shared by the official Istana Negara Instagram account, the duo could be seen casually sitting in the humble stall enjoying a serving of cendol and iced tea. Other members of His Majesty’s delegation also had the chance to enjoy the local dessert, fitting for a hot day. Throughout the video, the King and the Prince seemed very relaxed at the roadside stall, even interacting with the workers and customers.
One moment in the video that had netizens laughing was when the Agong cradled an infant, possibly the child of another customer. However, it seemed that the child’s parents were so distracted by the presence of royalty that they forgot about the boy, leading the King to ask, “Who’s child is this?” in a nonchalant tone. The group shared a laugh when the mother rushed to grab her child out of the Agong’s arms. The video ends with a shot of the King and the Prince posing with the workers for a group photo at the front of the store.
Many netizens have shared their reactions to the video, showering the Agong with praise for bringing Prince Albert II to a local stall because it gives a real-life look at what life is like for the common folk. Many also said the visit showed the true laid-back personality of our beloved King, who can be comfortable dining at a local eatery.
We hope the simple trip will leave a lasting impression on the Prince of Monaco and his delegation.
