Local coffee brand Aik Cheong shared unfortunate news today as they revealed that one of their warehouses caught on fire late last night (26th November). The warehouse, located at Taman Teknologi Cheng in Melaka, was almost completely destroyed by the fire. The company has released a statement regarding the fire on their social media pages, expressing sadness over the incident.
Aik Cheong also extended their gratitude to the firefighters who helped to control the fire. Through the posting, the company also announced that it will initiate a recovery process soon so customers will not be affected by the fire and can still purchase Aik Cheong products. They also shared photos of the incident, showing a raging fire engulfing the warehouse.
Zulkhairani Ramli, the Zone 1 Officer from the Malaysia Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) in Melaka, said the department received an emergency call through the MERS 999 hotline at 9:59pm. A team of 23 officers and two Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) units immediately rushed to the scene.
The officer spoke to news outlets, saying, “When we arrived on location, we found the warehouse belonging to Aik Cheong Beverage Industries Sdn. Bhd., measuring 7,200 square meters, have been burned to about 90%.” Zulkhairani revealed the fire was successfully brought under control by 11pm, but firefighting operations were ongoing till 10am this morning (27th November). Authorities are still investigating the cause of the fire but reported that there were no casualties or injuries.
