Driving at night is scary and oftentimes dangerous, especially when you can rely only the car’s headlights to illuminate the path ahead. Earlier this year, a family got into a horrible car accident where they collided with a water buffalo after an event late at night. Due to the low light, the driver was unable to avoid the unfortunate animal in time.
Accidents like this have caused major concerns and many believe that the roads, especially ones in rural areas, should be well-lit so that drivers can see clearly. Other than more streetlights, it looks like we have another solution to these problems; introducing Malaysia’s first-ever glow in the dark road!
Last night (Wednesday, 15th November), Bernama posted several photos on their official Facebook page that showed the installation of the first-ever glow in the dark road at the intersection of Jalan Sg Lalang B19 and Jalan Sg Tekali B16 in Semenyih. As seen in the photos above, there was no special technology needed to illuminate the road. Instead, glow in the dark paint was used.
The painting process was actually completed in October and it seems that we’re finally getting to see the results. Like any glow in the dark items, the paint on the road will appear normal during the daytime but will glow as soon as it gets dark enough during nighttime. According to the caption written, this is to ensure that road users will drive safely in the dark, especially if they are unfamiliar with the area.
Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi was there to inspect the location of the glow in the dark road paint installation. The innovation received praise from netizens who believe that this will improve road safety at night. Others, however, hoped that the government would also improve on other road issues such as cracks or potholes.
We hope to see more roads in Malaysia with glow-in-the-dark paint on them. What do you think about the road’s new paint job?
