Oysters – check, scallops – check, prawns, mussels, and sushi – all check. Whenever we have the opportunity to dine in for a buffet, there are always certain food items that are on our go-to list. At Grand Hyatt Kuala Lumpur’s THIRTY8 Restaurant, the Seafood Sunday Buffet ticks all the boxes.
Weekends are meant for relaxing and indulging; there’s no better way for seafood lovers to enjoy an unforgettable seafood extravaganza while overlooking the spectacular view of KLCC and the surrounding Kuala Lumpur vicinity. The view never gets old.
Dive head on into a culinary journey through the treasures of the sea. For starters, you can begin with their house-made sourdough bread by adding a layer of seaweed Kombu butter. Otherwise you could opt for the rich and creamy Lobster Coconut Bisque. It’s not only flavourful but we enjoyed the thick paste of mixture in a small serving.
Following that, we were excited to explore the fresh variety of Seafood on Ice, ranging from Camaros rojo prawns, clam lokan, and blue mussels, to the juicy shucked seasonal oysters. The grilled section had some amazing options too – featuring salt-baked seabass, THIRTY8’s signature Beef Wellington, lamb kofta, sea bream and tiger prawn.
As Chinese cuisine enthusiasts ourselves, the double-boiled Chinese seafood soup in a coconut shell was a personal favourite. With ingredients like Ginseng, prawn, dried scallop, and red dates encapsulated in the piping hot broth; and drinking from the coconut shell was pretty satisfying.
Another highlight from the Seafood Sunday Buffet is the pass-around tableside service. Serving dishes such as Asparagus risotto, Fisherman’s catch tostadas, and baked seafood parcel add more variety to the diverse range of flavours available at THIRTY8.
Save some space for the delectable desserts and indulge in their cake selections, ice cream, sorbet, cruffle and waffle, churros, chocolate tarts and more. Although soft drinks, fruit punches and kombuchas are also available, we’d recommend making a beeline to the Hot Beverage Station to grab yourself a cup of Masala Tea or Teh Tarik! Of course, diners can also choose to add on red wine, white wine, draught beers, or prosecco for an additional fee.
Props to Grand Hyatt KL for being sustainability-focused and environmentally conscious. Not only do they produce their own house-grown veggies and source many of their ingredients locally; even sauces and ketchup are made from scratch.
The sad truth is, buffets tend to result in food wastage. The team at THIRTY8 make the effort to put out small amounts of food (e.g.: sushi, waffles) and replenish when supplies are low. The chefs here use a Lumatics Insight system to gauge their food servings to minimise food wastage. Some of the waste from the buffet is then used for their vegetable growing.
