We’ve heard many anecdotes from foreigners who have visited or lived in Malaysia – but that doesn’t stop us from wondering why some foreigners prefer our country over theirs. In a YouTube video, Malaysia-based content creators Saki Chan and Aya Nakata chatted about their experiences living and working in Malaysia and why they believe that Malaysia is the ideal country for them.
They noted several positive points of living in Malaysia and compared the experiences to when they were in Japan. The first pro that they highlighted was the warm weather of Malaysia, saying that it’s comfortable for them because they’re not fond of cold weather.
Aya, who has lived in Malaysia for seven years, also said she feels more relaxed because of the warm climate. They also praised the abundant greenery in Kuala Lumpur that provides a good balance alongside modern skyscrapers and infrastructure.
The duo also said that they’ve become more cheerful after living here due to the influence of their surroundings and the locals. Saki, who works here, says her friendly colleagues make her feel happier, even changing her mindset into something more positive. Saki also complimented the relaxed working environment in Malaysia, saying it’s less stressful than working in Japan.
Saki and Aya also believe Malaysia is an ideal place to live for Japanese because they get the familiarity of Japan and the exciting experiences only available in Malaysia. The two said the ability to experience different religious and cultural events in Malaysia is exciting and almost impossible if they were in Japan.
They also talked about safety in Malaysia, saying that they feel more safe here than in Japan, especially as women. Saki lamented that there are many incidents of women getting physically harassed in Japan, even sharing two of her own experiences. While it doesn’t mean such incidents don’t happen here, the two said it’s more prevalent in Japan.
Besides this video, Saki and Aya have other videos on their YouTube channel where they share about their lives in Malaysia. It is refreshing to hear their thoughts about Malaysia – and we hope they’ll continue to enjoy their lives here.
