Casinos often present a shiny target for thieves, but the amount of security it has is usually a good deterrent. Yet, for the SkyCasino in Resorts World Genting, that regretfully wasn’t the case.
The well-known SkyCasino has always been a favourite among visitors. Unfortunately, the casino allegedly suffered a bout of misfortune at the end of last month (October) when their chips were stolen, leading to a loss of RM4.6 million.
According to China Press, an assistant manager who works at the SkyCasino discovered the crime on 28th October around 7am via CCTV. Reportedly, she had spotted two men stealing chips from boxes left on two tables in the gambling hall.
But, the assistant manager apparently only reported the crime to the police 11 hours later, around 6pm at the Genting Highlands Police Station. Due to the time discrepancy in reporting the crime, some have speculated that the culprits would have gotten away with the RM4.6 million in chips, despite the two police booths set up at the foot and along the mountain way.
Unfortunately, further information has not been made available. Reportedly, the assistant manager who witnessed and reported the incident refused to discuss the matter further, while China Press was unable to confirm the report with the police in Genting Highlands.
Just last year, there were rumours that the SkyCasino had been robbed but authorities later confirmed that no such incident had happened. Regardless, we sincerely hope authorities will be able to resolve this incident soon.
