Celebrities and entrepreneurs have come up with some ridiculous content just for views – so it can be refreshing to see someone boldly admit to it.
Haliza Maysuri is a local fashion designer and the founder of several Muslim clothing brands. She recently went viral for gifting her pet cat, Money, with a brand new BMW i7. She shared a video of her bringing Money around at the dealership before letting the cat pose with the new car. According to the video, the car was a gift to the pet cat from both Haliza and her husband.
Many of Haliza’s followers immediately shared their joy for the cat, saying she’s lucky to get a new luxury car. Many also said the car was the result of the designer’s hard work and dedication to her company. However, some people weren’t happy about the video, calling Haliza shameful for showing off her wealth. One netizen even said the video is just a cheap marketing stunt and stupid content.
In response to the comments, Haliza made several posts on Instagram admitting that the video was for content – but she has her reasons. In the first post, the entrepreneur clarified that the car was a gift from her husband for her 45th birthday. She said that they first saw the car while attending a work event and were motivated to work hard to purchase an i7 for themselves. She also clarified that her husband purchased the car about a year ago but had only received it, admittedly during a bad timing, given the current state of the world.
She then addressed the comments about her using the car and her cat Money for content, which she admits is true. However, Haliza said that as a business owner with over 25 years of experience, she is always thinking of new ways to promote her brands. She realised that lifestyle videos get the most attention and decided to use her cat because netizens enjoy cat videos. The entrepreneur added that this type of promotion is more effective than the typical advertising featuring models in a studio.
Many comments backed Haliza up, saying that netizens were overreacting. Some even said that the entrepreneur has always been philanthropic but doesn’t need to show it on social media to prove it. A few also said the video of her and Money at the dealership was inspirational because it made them want to work hard to achieve the same success.
It’s great that Haliza is open to admitting that the video was for content purposes – what do you think about this? Was she showing off or are netizens just overreacting?
