Many Malaysian celebrities have been vocal about their support towards the people of Palestine in light of the tragedy that Palestinians have been facing. Recently, many public figures shared their disappointment regarding the organiser of the support rally held at Dataran Merdeka.
Another well-known local celebrity who has been openly supporting Palestine and sharing about the effects of the war is Ameera Khan, a.k.a Little Miss Khan. The 22-year-old has been regularly sharing videos and posts about the war through her Instagram, specifically her Instagram Stories. Unfortunately, one of her Instagram Stories was removed because it went against Instagram’s Community Guidelines.
The Stories post was of her making remarks about the United States and the United Kingdom vetoing the United Nations (UN) resolution calling for a cease-fire to end all violence against civilians, resulting in the resolution failing to pass in the UN Security Council. In her Stories, the young celeb wrote, “I knew you’re as evil as the Devil just from your faces. I can’t wait to see you get retribution from Allah, a thousand times worse than what you did to the Palestinians. Such evil lunatics! I’m so mad, I want to spit on your ugly faces and choke you with that necklace.”
Ameera had used the Kelantanese accent in her post, perhaps to get past Instagram’s strict censorship rules regarding posts relating to the war, but was unsuccessful. The censorship is something that many Instagram users have been facing ever since the war between Palestine and Israel broke out. Many have noted that their posts supporting Palestine have been “shadow-banned”, meaning their content cannot be viewed by most users. US-based model Bella Hadid also revealed that she was shadow-banned on the app after posting about Israel’s assault on Masjid Al-Aqsa.
What do you think about the post? Do you think Instagram should’ve removed it, or was Ameera justified for voicing her opinion about the ongoing war?
