Malaysians have never hesitated to show their support for Palestine against their oppressors. Many local celebrities and influencers have shared posts on their social media to spread awareness about what’s happening in the Middle East.
However, singer Baby Shima’s post about Israel may have triggered a few people, including actress Janna Nick who criticised her for not taking the issue seriously. Here’s what happened:
Earlier this week, Baby Shima posted a (now-removed) photo of the Israeli flag with the words, “Praying For Israel. May Allah remove them from this earth. Ameen” written at the bottom. While most of her fans found humour in the post, Janna Nick thought it was insensitive. “Stop making this kind of content. This is not a joke. Thank you,” she said in a now-deleted comment.
The original post was also soon taken down by Instagram. As seen above, the following day, producer Fadzil Zahari commented on a netizen’s post of the same photo. Baby Shima then warned the producer for commenting on the post as she feared Janna would criticise him for it as well. The “Sejenak Sendiri” songstress addressed the situation in her IG stories.
In the screenshots above, the 31-year-old said, “I feel sorry for those who couldn’t read. This is why English education is important. It’s sad that many couldn’t understand English. So triggered just by seeing a flag.” The public figure then reposted the photo along with her “warning” where netizens and even fellow celebs agreed that people should not jump to conclusions before learning the full context.
However, a few have argued that it’s best to not share anything that may lead to any kind of misunderstanding. Janna Nick has yet to directly respond to Baby Shima’s posts and comments about her but the actress has shared a carousel post on her IG to show her support for Palestine. Do you think Janna was right to criticise the dangdut singer for her post?
