K-pop fans use lightsticks at concerts to show support for their favourite groups. Lightsticks also typically include a symbol that represents the group or the fans. After 20 years in the industry, Korean hip-hop group Epik High (에픽하이) is finally getting their official lightstick.
Epik High member Tablo (타블로) first teased about the lightstick last week (10th October), saying that the group is “about to revolutionise the K-pop industry” with the lightstick. Earlier today (16th October), the rapper finally shared a look at the cheering item, which left their fans (HighSkools) amused with the design – it is essentially a cartoon depiction of a middle finger.
Since Epik High is known for its outspoken personality, a middle finger lightstick seems on brand for the group. Epik High member Mithra Jin (미쓰라 진) was also in the reveal video, showing his satisfaction with the design. The two even said the lightstick isn’t offensive because it’s so cute. Unfortunately, they mentioned the design isn’t the final one, so there may be changes in the future.
Despite that, fans have already shown love for the lightstick’s first draft design and are prepared to get their hands on it. Some fans even said the item is multifunctional because you can use it as an “emotional support tool” in your everyday life. However, one Korean fan pointed out that the lightstick cannot be shown to your parents or else you might get in trouble.
Funnily enough, Tablo once shared that when the trio was under YG Entertainment, they suggested a similar design for their official lightstick but the idea was rejected. What do you think about their lightstick design now?
