Today (12th October), low-cost airline MYAirline made a surprise announcement that it will suspend all operations, just less than a year since it commenced operations.
The announcement notice was published on their website and social media pages. In the statement, the airline wrote, “MYAirline regrettably announces the suspension of its operations effective 12 October 2023 until further notice. The airline has come to this extremely painful decision because of significant financial pressures that have made it necessary to suspend operations pending the shareholder restructuring and recapitalization of the airline.”
According to the statement, the board of directors said they have been exploring various partnerships and capital-raising options to prevent the suspension but due to time constraints, were left with no other alternative but to suspend operations. Unfortunately, passengers who booked flights scheduled for today were not informed of the suspension, which left many stranded at KLIA Terminal 2.
According to a post by a Lowyat.net forum member, service counters for the airline are also closed with no staff members in the vicinity, leading to more frustration. Flights departing from Kuala Lumpur to Tawau, Kuching, Kota Kinabalu and Kota Bahru have all been cancelled. MYAirline flights to and from Bangkok have also been suspended, leaving many transit passengers stuck to find an alternative.
There is no definite timeline on when operations will resume – but the airline has extended its apologies to affected passengers and will assist with arranging alternatives.
