In early August, drivers using the MEX Highway were delighted to hear that the tolls along the highway will accept debit and credit card payments – with more to follow suit in the future.

As of today (29th September), 11 more highways will also accept payments from debit and credit cards. Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi announced the news as he launched the Open Payment Toll Collection System (SPT) at the Loke Yew toll plaza on Besraya.

The system aims to provide drivers alternatives besides the existing payment methods of Touch ‘n Go, Smart Tags and Radio Frequency Identification (RFID). Datuk Seri Alexander said, “Our objective is to provide payment options for users, since previously, there were only one or two systems; sometimes their (Touch’N Go) card balance is not sufficient (for toll payment).”

The 11 highways that will implement the SPT starting today are:

  • Ampang-Kuala Lumpur Elevated Expressway (Akleh)
  • Guthrie Corridor Expressway (GCE)
  • Sungai Besi Expressway (Besraya)
  • Pantai Baru Expressway (NPE)
  • Butterworth-Kulim Expressway (BKE).
  • Damansara-Puchong Expressway (LDP)
  • Skim Penyuraian Trafik Kuala Lumpur Barat (SPRINT)
  • Shah Alam Expressway (Kesas)
  • SMART Tunnel, Kuala Lumpur-Putrajaya Expressway (MEX)
  • Duta-Ulu Klang Expressway (DUKE)

According to Datuk Seri Alexander, the 12 highways had all agreed to implement the system, with the Penang Bridge (JPP) expected to implement it as well by the end of the year. The SPT is part of the MYjalan initiative undertaken by the Works Ministry to provide convenience to road users.
