Most everyone has skeletons in their closets. Most don’t get dragged out publicly. However, after Luwe Xin Hui (Luwee, 雷欣蕙) was declared as ATV Miss Asia Pageant Malaysia 2023 (亚洲小姐竞选) yesterday (25th September), many are now coming together to publicly expose Luwe for bullying.
The recently crowned Miss Asia Pageant Malaysia has held the title for less than a day but already her position on the throne seems overly precarious. People alleging to have known her have been coming out of the woodworks claiming the same thing; Luwe Xin Hui is a bully and is not worthy of the crown.
While the 23-year-old was celebrating her win last night, a storm was gathering on the internet. Those who had known her from her school years in Melaka were pouring into the comments section, detailing how she had hurt them, made fun of them and ultimately, never apologised to them.
Many claimed she had targeted people’s looks with her friends. “I was a victim because my skin was darker (than others),” one stated. “She once called me “Black Chicken”. She used this name to attack my appearance every time and (got) others to do the same to me.”
Another claimed Luwe would refer to her as “the Egyptian Pharoah” as she wore bangs. “The verbal bullying did not happen only once, but every (time I) encountered her (in school),” she added. The netizen went on to add that Luwe would also swear at her and her friends, even making fun of her in the school toilets and pouring water on her during a charity fair.
That was apparently not the only time Luwe had acted out. Another alleged that Luwe had once fought with a senior, pulling on her hair and throwing water at her. “(She would) pour water on her classmates’ desks, encourage people to throw joss paper at Catholic classmates, stick (paper) to her classmate’s skirt by placing it on their chair and brought seniors to make fun of her classmate,” they recounted.
A netizen too claimed Luwe had forced her to apologise after she mistook a glance in her direction as a glare. “If didn’t apologise, (she) would have come to my class with her friends to (cause) trouble for me,” they said. “(She really is) a drama queen who thinks the whole world revolves around her.”
In addition to the many accounts from her victims, others have been clamouring for Luwe Xin Hui to own up to her mistakes and apologise. Several have also been questioning the pageant authorities’ judgement. “Is this kind of person worthy of being a champion?” a netizen asked.
There have been people defending Luwe in the comments, with several pointing out that most of these incidents took place years ago during the 23-year-old’s schooling days. Yet, netizens are staunch in their decision to bring her misdeeds to light.
“Can a bully forget all the bad things she did in high school and now enjoy the title of a beauty pageant champion?” one asked. “No matter who she is today, (it) will not change what she had done.” Another opined that allowing one with such a personality to hold the title would be a bad example to others.
Several also denied denouncing her character out of jealousy. “Is there anything she has that will make us envious?” one asked. Many also implied that they wished to see justice done as they alleged that previously, the schools had never taken action against Luwe despite their complaints.
So far, neither Miss Asia Pageant Malaysia nor Luwe Xin Hui have commented on the issue. However, there is no denying that the outpouring of comments against Luwe does not look good, especially in the wake of her win.
