We’ve seen many cases of able-bodied people taking advantage of the amenities and resources meant for differently-abled people (OKU) – whether it’s illegally parking at an OKU spot or using the public OKU restroom for their selfish use.
In a video that went viral on social media recently, a taxi driver was caught committing two unlawful acts, gaining much criticism for his actions. The video shared by the Twitter account MALAYSIA MOST VIRAL shows the taxi driver struggling to back out of an OKU parking spot because of a Perodua Kancil parked at the back corner. There is no sticker suggesting the taxi driver has any disabilities, so it’s believed he had parked there illegally.

However, the Perodua Kancil clearly showed an OKU sticker on its windshield window, so it may be possible that they were trying to park at the spot occupied by the taxi. Once the taxi was out of the parking spot, the driver stepped out of the vehicle to rip the wiper off the Kancil out of anger towards the OKU driver.
Unsurprisingly, the taxi driver’s action was met with tons of condemnation and anger. Many netizens slammed the taxi driver and called him entitled because he found no wrong in parking in the OKU spot and destroying someone else’s property. Some said the taxi driver should receive punishment for his actions, even tagging the authorities in hopes of getting their attention.
As of reporting, there is no additional information regarding the taxi driver or if he has received any punishment for his action – but we hope this incident can serve as a reminder to be more civilised and respectful to differently-abled people.
