Earlier this week, a grandfather and his grandchild passed away after the duo drowned in a pond at Sungai Petani, Kedah. It was reported that the 78-year-old man tried to save his 2-year-old grandson who fell into the pond at a restaurant.
Unfortunately, both of them did not survive. Many have offered their condolences to the family once the news broke out but one netizen showed no sympathy and left very insensitive comments on Instagram.

News about the tragic incident of the two family members drowning was posted all over social media. However, rather than offering his condolences, this netizen who goes by @shahdan_shahhhhh left two rude remarks on Berita Harian’s IG post with the first one being: “I bet these two were from Kelantan. They’re so uncivilised. So poor that they couldn’t even afford a swimming pool.”
If that wasn’t heartless enough, he continued with a second comment that reads, “The majority of people from Kelantan and Terengganu are poor so they can’t afford to go to a swimming pool, which is why they drowned at a dirty pond like this.” He immediately deleted his comments after receiving backlash from netizens but one managed to screenshot the remarks and reposted them on Twitter.
As expected, many condemned the young man’s harsh words and called him out for his insensitivity. Some even claimed that he previously mocked the people of Sabah and Sarawak during the Agong’s visit to the two states. Following the controversy, many are now wondering which clinic or hospital would hire him after noticing that he wore a stethoscope in some of his IG posts.

While most people would go private after going viral, strangely enough, his Instagram profile is still public. At the time of writing, there has been no update on whether or not the individual has apologised for his unsympathetic comments about the drowning victims.
Let this be a reminder to always practice kindness and be compassionate to others, especially during difficult times.
