When it comes to poultry, domestic pigeons would be the last option people would choose. However, for this woman, pigeons are not only her preferred choice of protein but she even claimed it’s the reason behind her beauty.

Shared through Twitter, Unna Delana posted a photo of herself alongside a separate photo of a humble meal consisting of white rice, some raw vegetables and fried pigeon. She captioned the tweet, “Tips for being beautiful, eat pigeons.” While it may seem like an average tweet showing off a meal, Unna’s choice of protein didn’t sit too well with netizens.

Many began criticising her for eating pigeons, calling it disgusting and unhygienic. Some even said consuming pigeon meat is risky because it can cause illnesses like meningitis. Some went as far as to call Unna crazy for her unconventional “beauty tip”, which Unna clarified was just a joke.

However, the Malaysian stood by her tweet and schooled the critics on their criticisms. According to Unna, the pigeons she eats are farmed and slaughtered by her father so they’re safe to consume. She also acknowledged the comments that pigeons are unhygienic, clarifying that she would never eat wild pigeons.

She added the pigeon itself is not haram so it’s not an issue for Muslims to eat the meat. Unna also mentioned how “toxic” people on social media can be as they immediately condemned her choice of meat without understanding the full context.

While we’re not going to start promoting pigeon meat to people, we can promote kindness on the internet – so let’s not immediately criticise people without knowing the whole story.
