It’s been a while since MAMAMOO’s Hwasa (화사) released new music as a solo artist. The singer’s last comeback was last year with the release of “I’m a 빛” and just yesterday (Wednesday, 6th September), she came back to entertain fans with a new song and music video titled “I Love My Body”!
To promote the new track, the 28-year-old sat down for an interview with fellow artist Sung Si Kyung (성시경) on his YouTube channel where she also revealed some details about the hate comments she received over a recent controversial performance.

Earlier this week, Hwasa appeared on Sung Si Kyung’s YouTube Channel where the two idols caught up on what’s been going on with their lives over a nice meal. During the casual chat, the MAMAMOO member opened up about the hate messages she received after her performance at the Sungkyunkwan University festival where she incorporated a sexual gesture into her choreography.
The vocalist explained that she found out about netizens’ reactions to the performance during MAMAMOO’s US tour. That’s when she received tons of messages on social media. “I found out there was a controversy about me on stage and thought, ‘I see…’ but the level of hate comments was really extreme. I’m not usually someone who dwells on hate comments, but this time it was [too much],” she said.
The “Maria” songstress tried to keep her emotions in check during the group’s concert in New York but as soon as the show was over, she burst into tears. “I think it was the biggest cry I had this year. My tears flowed like a waterfall,” she added. Unfortunately, she was still emotional after she got back to the hotel and cried on the parking lot’s floor as she couldn’t hold back her tears.

Thankfully, while she was still feeling depressed about the whole situation, rapper PSY (싸이) one day approached her with a song demo which then turned out to be her latest release, “I Love My Body”. “I laughed for the first time during the U.S. tour after hearing the song. I was having such a hard time because of the obscenity controversy. So the fact that I was suddenly shouting, ‘I love my body!’ cheered me up,” she said.
While the song itself received mixed reviews from fans, many were still glad that the song made Hwasa feel better about herself. Check out the full interview below:
