Sometimes, speaking out is better than keeping mum. After ignoring rumours of an alleged affair and even an illegitimate child, Hong Kong actor Tony Leung (梁朝偉) has finally released a statement to debunk everything.
Last week, various Chinese media speculated the actor had an extramarital affair with Chinese singer Cheng Xiao (程潇) after photos of them shopping together surfaced. Some reports even added that Tony had fathered an illegitimate child with the singer and had purchased a house in Japan for her.
A week after the rumours surfaced, the 61-year-old finally broke his silence, taking to Weibo to issue a statement. He denied all the false news and called the allegations “purely fictitious, maliciously spread rumours and distorted facts.” He also said that he and his wife, Carina Lau (刘嘉玲), are happily married and that he condemns the malicious acts of the rumour mongers.
Cheng Xiao had previously addressed the allegations via her agency and denied everything, even calling it baseless and ridiculous. Both celebs had threatened to take further legal action against relevant parties for spreading false statements and defaming their names.
Hopefully, these statements from Tony Leung and Cheng Xiao will finally put all the groundless rumours to rest.
