It’s basically common knowledge that customers are not allowed to bring outside food when dining in a restaurant. Unfortunately, this Indonesian influencer did not get the memo and decided to bring a pork snack into a halal restaurant and mixed it with his meal.
Originally posted on TikTok earlier this week, Jovi Adhiguna Hunter shared with his followers that he was having a Bakso meal at a halal-certified restaurant. However, without thinking, the TikToker then decided to take out a bag of pork chips or crackers that he bought outside and pour the snack into the meal to add a little more flavour to it.
hmmm, bener sih, ya jangan campurin yg halal sama non-halal, harus menghargai outlet makanan/minuman yg telah tersertifikasi halal pic.twitter.com/zceEXq60vv

The now-deleted post obviously drew a lot of negative attention from both Indonesian and Malaysian netizens. Many condemned the influencer for his ignorance while others pointed out that one cannot mix halal and non-halal food together in a bowl, plate, or cup at a halal restaurant. After much backlash, the content creator deleted the original post from TikTok and released a series of apologies on Instagram.
In one IG story, Jovi said that he was made aware of the mistake and promised to be more careful. “I honestly was not thinking that the bakso I ate was halal and that I shouldn’t be mixing it with something non-halal. So I would like to apologise from the bottom of my heart to everyone affected by the video. This will never happen again. It was purely my fault,” he wrote.
In another IG story, the Indonesian public figure further explained to his followers that he was getting backlash not because he mixed the pork snack with his meal but because he poured the non-halal food into the restaurant’s bowl that will be used by Muslim customers and that the restaurant would’ve needed to cleanse it before reusing the bowl.
“To avoid further misunderstandings, my video is being reposted by others as a reminder and lesson because it was really my fault for not being careful. It would’ve been fine if I were to pack my food and mix it with whatever I wanted at home but I used the halal restaurant’s tableware which should not have happened. I meant no harm which is why I apologised,” he elaborated.

While we understand why netizens were upset, we also applaud Jivo for taking responsibility for his actions and owning up to his mistakes. More people should definitely learn from him.
