Most youths look forward to the day they can get their driver’s license so they can experience the joy and freedom to drive anywhere at any time. However, many have expressed that they had no choice but to postpone their classes and tests due to financial reasons.

It seems like many more have to put their driving dreams on hold after it was shared that Malaysia is now listed as the second most expensive country for a driving test. Here’s what we know:

According to a report by online Driver Education resource, Zutobi, out of all countries in the world, Malaysia is apparently ranked No. 2 in the most expensive country for a driving test category. The company explained the reasons for the costly driving test ranking in a press statement released earlier this week on Tuesday (18th July).

“It requires applicants to complete theoretical and practical examinations. On top of this, Malaysians are required to spend 33 hours in lessons,” they said. It was said that the total cost is about £505 (RM2,959). However, according to Metro Driving Academy, the most expensive package for the test is RM2,500, contradicting Zutobi’s statement. It was also mentioned that Croatia currently holds the No. 1 spot for the most expensive country for a driving test which cost an extra £400 (RM2,357), a record previously held by Norway in 2021.

“Eighty-five hours of driving lessons are a compulsory part of taking a Croatian driving test and consequently, this makes a test there incredibly expensive. As the average fee for the tests around the world is £106, Croats have to pay an average of £824 more than most countries,” Zutobi stated.

While the online Driver Education resource has yet to publish the full official list of the most to least expensive driving tests and how they conducted their research, Zutobi did recently release a list of the top 30 easiest driving tests in the world with Mexico taking the No.1 spot as seen above.

Malaysia, however, was not listed in this ranking so we can assume that apart from being the 2nd most expensive, we are also one of the hardest countries to learn how to drive.

Do you agree with these rankings?
