As the saying goes, “cleanliness is next to godliness”, but it seems not everyone is upholding that standard. At least, this popular pretzel store in Queensbay Mall, Penang isn’t’.
One local netizen had been visiting the mall when they spotted something horrifying at its Auntie Anne’s outlet; a couple of rats scampering among the store’s trash. Needless to say, they were quick to spread the news and warn other mall-goers off.
“For my Penang, Queensbay goers, please refrain from getting your pretzel fix from Auntie Anne’s— unless you like them extra-flavoured,” the Tweet, posted 15th July, read. A video accompanied the tweet, showing the trash bins in the store, and a couple of rats hanging out on the lip of the bin, before scampering away into other open boxes and containers shoved under the counter.
The video stated: “Wanted to give y’all a quick heads-up about how we witnessed more than 10 of these little critters partying inside Auntie Anne’s garbage at Queensbay Mall, Penang. Took the issue up with MOH and lodged a complaint but I’d suggest you steer clear of Auntie Anne’s for now until they sort out this SS15-rat-infested-wannabe-situation.”
A few netizens were horrified. However, some couldn’t help but remember another rat famous for his cooking skills. “That’s the chef!” one jokingly exclaimed. Another quipped: “Ratatouille (is) just trying (a) new recipe.” But, there were some who were taking the situation seriously. “(You) have to check neighbouring shops/restaurants as well,” someone cautioned. “If there’s an infestation, surely other areas (have a lot of rats) too.”
Auntie Anne’s has reached out to the netizen for further information to carry out their own investigation. Well, we sincerely hope they will be able to solve their rat-infestation problem soon!
