2023 has been a big year for horror games – from new releases such as ‘Alan Wake 2’ and ‘Amnesia: The Bunker’, to remakes like ‘Resident Evil 4’ and ‘Dead Space.’ If this continues, 2023 will be the year of horror games, and we are here for it. However, keen-eyed gamers would know that these games lean towards the action-shooter horror genre. These games create a sense of comfort because you have the ability to fight back against your hunter.
But, as a result, we’ve moved away from older games where you are completely helpless and your only chance of survival is to run for your life. If you love those games or just want some authentic nostalgia, then don’t worry; the cult-classic horror game ‘Clock Tower’ is getting a much-deserved and long-awaited remaster.

This news may not tickle the fancy of newer horror junkies, but it does older fans’. For those unaware, Clock Tower is an old point-and-click survival horror game where you play as Jennifer, an orphan who has been newly adopted into a powerful family whose manor lies deep in the woods. As she acquaints herself with her new life, a killer suddenly emerges and starts whittling down the family members one by one.
Although the game was first released in 1995, with a few more titles being released up to 2002, it has been making occasional appearances in recent years thanks to its devoted fan base. And it was this dedicated fanbase that pushed this game to get the remaster it needed. Limited Run, a website that is well-known for Indie games and physical releases, announced during its annual showcase that numerous games will be getting physical releases, including new and even old games, one of which is Clock Tower.

The studio that will be helming the process and making the remaster possible will be WayForward, a company with a great track record of revitalising almost forgotten games while giving them a few distinct twists. A few of these confirmed additions will be giving the game some manga-like cutscenes and a unique opening movie, something that wasn’t possible for old games.
In an official Tweet by Limited Run, it was announced that Clock Tower is slated for a 2024 release with limited physical copies sold on Limited Run’s website, and digital copies sold on specific platforms; those platforms are Steam, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and Nintendo Switch, allowing people to enjoy this suspenseful classic on their preferred platform. As the announcement was made fairly recently, we can expect to hear more news as the release date draws closer.
