Having blemish-free skin is a dream for many, so it’s not surprising that people would pay good money for skincare treatments. Of course, not all beauty clinics are created equal, and some “clinics” unfortunately cause more harm than good to your skin – like this alleged outlet in Mid Valley.
A Twitter user known as T recently shared a thread about how her skin went from clear to damaged after attending facial treatment sessions at Venusde Beauty Salon last year. She said that she was first interested in their Pico Laser treatment due to its reasonable price of RM99 – but after attending the first session, she immediately realised the salon’s shady practices.
In her tweet, she shared that Venusde will hard-sell other overpriced treatments, a claim backed up by reviews from previous customers. Those customers added that they felt forced to choose the treatment because the staff were pushy. Another instance of the beauty salon’s unprofessionalism was that they would apparently force customers to write a review while on the premise. One customer even claimed a staff member had secretly submitted a review in her name without her consent.
As for their services, it was equally bad in T’s case – because her skin condition became worse after her sessions. The Twitter user said she developed incredibly painful blemishes that would bleed at the slightest touch. She then had to fork out more money for a dermatologist and medication to treat her skin. She said that due to her skin, she had suffered physical and emotional pain.
In hopes of a refund, T reached out to Venusde, but the salon said they could not issue one. Infuriating her was the staff’s rudeness as they blamed her instead of taking responsibility and would even ignore her messages. She also shared that Venusde has been deleting her Google review of them every time she tries posting about her experience.
After the Twitter thread went viral, Venusde uploaded a post on their social media to deny the allegations, adding that they would take legal action against T. This response was not well-received by netizens, who called the clinic out for its unprofessionalism. Many also commented that the clinic odd to take responsibility and apologise to T and other customers negatively affected by their services.
As of now, T shared that she will be suing Venusde and is urging other customers who had a similar experience with the salon to speak up. We can only wish her luck in seeking justice for herself and other customers.
Update (13th July):
A dermatologist from Shah Alam, who goes by Dr Ingky on Twitter, also shared his thoughts on why T’s skin reacted so badly to the treatment and how this could’ve been avoided from spreading.
Sad to see this sort of thing happen. Highly likely, she had folliculitis, which is the infection & inflammation of the pores/hair follicles leading to severe acne vulgaris after extractions and laser treatments. https://t.co/6d3H3gYFyj

Folliculitis is a risk whenever one does facials or lasers. It could be due to hygiene, improper technique, or skin reaction to being mishandled. However at the 1st sign of folliculitis, one should be referred immediately to any GP for immediate antibiotics to control the spread
