Many are hoping that Hong Kong-singer Coco Lee (李玟) has found peace in her passing. However, that certainly isn’t the case for her immediate family and her husband, Bruce Rockowitz. Since news of the famous singer’s death, plenty of complications have arose from her troubled marriage, including Bruce’s cheating habits, and Coco’s will.
It’s clear to netizens that while Coco Lee may have still harboured feelings for her unfaithful husband, there is no love lost between Bruce Rockowitz and her own sisters, especially Nancy Lee (李思林). However, Nancy has notably gained respect for not lashing out at Bruce publicly, even seemingly handling their affairs with grace!
For those not in the know, it seems Coco Lee’s relationship with her 80-year-old mother and older sisters, Nancy and Carol, have always been close. Coco and Nancy in particular, got along well as Nancy used to be her manager and is an artist in her own right. This automatically made her the best spokesperson from the family after Coco’s passing. Nancy’s expertise was needed, as Coco had been such a high-profile artist.
She also had a big hand in handling the commotion caused by Bruce’s actions. For starters, Nancy had been the one to speak out after Bruce published an obituary in the news for Coco, with both Nancy and Carol’s names signed on it. “This (the obituary) was issued by Coco’s husband, and (was) not by me,” Nancy claimed. She also notably not lashed out at Bruce despite rumours of him looking for a lawyer to contest Coco’s will.
As music critic 树娃shuwa pointed out on Weibo: “(Regarding the affairs) between Coco Lee and (Bruce Rockowitz), Nancy Lee has been restrained and low-key. No matter what emotions and attitude she has towards her brother-in-law, from beginning to end, she never spoke ill of the other.” The critic also asked for netizens to be more understanding towards Nancy as she’s doing what she can under the circumstances.
There’s no denying that the past week has been very difficult for Nancy, Carol and their mom. On top of grieving the loss of Coco Lee, they’ve had to face public scrutiny and conflicts. We sincerely hope things die down for them soon, so they will be able to take the time they need to mourn Coco’s loss.
