Facilities that are specifically designed to ease disabled people or OKUs’ lives are often misused by able-bodied/minded people. Previously, a wheelchaired athlete called out a man for hogging the OKU restroom in Pavilion Kuala Lumpur to wash his clothes.
If people misusing OKU facilities aren’t bad enough, this OKU woman had the unfortunate experience of having her car blocked by a RapidKL bus at an OKU parking space. Here’s what happened:

Earlier this morning (Monday, 3rd July), Dr. Noraishah Mydin Abd Aziz posted several photos on Twitter of her unfortunate parking experience. According to the wheelchaired scientist, her car was obstructed by a Rapid KL bus after parking it at the designated OKU parking space to drop off a friend at the University LRT station. As seen in the photos, the bus was parked right behind her car, thus blocking her exit the parking space.
“I had to get out of my car, get on my wheelchair and go find the bus driver and beg him to move his bus when I had rightfully parked at the designated space for OKU drivers,” she tweeted. The former Pakatan Harapan GE15 candidate revealed that it took about 20 minutes before she was able to leave said parking space.
She then proceeded to tag Transport Minister Anthony Loke, Local Government Development Minister Nga Kor Ming, Prasarana, and RapidKL to take action against the bus driver who caused a major inconvenience to her as an OKU. Shortly after her Twitter thread went viral, RapidKL swiftly responded to Dr. Noraishah’s complaint.

According to their tweets, RapidKL apologised to the Ph.D. holder and informed her that they will be taking appropriate action against the bus captain involved. At the time of writing, neither Dr. Noraishah nor RapidKL gave an update regarding the incident.
We hope that all goes well for the scientist and that the bus driver will be more careful where they parked next time, even if it’s just momentarily.
