Most house renovations are fairly straightforward, barring a few odd surprises. However, this homeowner admittedly got a nasty and unexpected shock when he decided to get his place renovated.

Just yesterday (25th June), a homeowner and some renovation workers were horrified to discover a corpse in the house in Bandar Baharu Pasir Pekan, Tumpat, Kelantan. Police have since been investigating the case.

According to the homeowner (34), he had started renovating the two-storey terrace house in Taman Kota Kubang Labu last year. However, on Saturday (24th June), the renovation workers told him they smelled something foul from the first floor. Several assumed it was the smell of an animal’s carcass. They soon asked him to look into it.

“I mustered up the courage to go upstairs and check. After I opened the door, I saw a brown stain on the floor before seeing a human foot,” he reportedly said before adding he had immediately contacted the police. Police later revealed that the corpse, an unidentified man in his 40s had been tied hand and foot. They also stated that the deceased was believed to have been dead for over three days, according to the body’s degree of decomposition.

The victim’s body has been sent to the hospital in Tumpat for an autopsy. Currently, the police are investigating the case under Section 302 of the Penal Code. While renovations on the house have resumed, the homeowner admitted he’s rethinking his decision to live in the house, saying: “I’m worried my parents would be afraid.”

Well, we certainly can’t fault him for having second thoughts about the house. Hopefully, the police will be able to further their investigations soon. In the meantime, we wish the deceased peace in the next life.
