How would you react if you caught someone filming you without your permission? This particular issue has been widely discussed among netizens on Twitter after a video posted by a TikToker went viral on social media.
The issue was brought to light by Twitter user @zabedabedoo. According to the netizen, the male TikTok user @Meloooww00 posted a random video of him inside a shopping mall in the Klang Valley.
However, things unexpectedly took a dramatic turn when the man filmed two girls walking in the same area. “The lady in the pink shoes went down the escalator. She assumed that she was being (secretly) recorded and proceeded to flip the bird,” @zabedabedoo tweeted. But it didn’t stop just there!
The lady, who is an influencer, later took to her Instagram Story to vent her frustration. “I’m so fuming right now you have no idea. The fact that he posted that on his TikTok without my consent?” the woman questioned. “Secondly, is it legal to record someone randomly, and again without their consent?”
She went on with her rant, “So, you thought I’d just stay silent without flipping you off? I need to know what’s the motive behind your actions. Why would you want to record a video of me going down the escalator? What for? Suddenly, I’m the villain and the rude one?”
Following that, netizens became engaged in a heated debate on Twitter over the matter. “Both are at fault to be honest,” @zabedabedoo argued. “If I was in her situation, I’d be hella uncomfortable as well. But the flipping off was definitely unnecessary, especially if you’re quite known online. Should’ve call him out first at least. :/”
Other comments left by the netizens include:
- “The OP wasn’t even focusing on her. She just happened to be in the scene. I’d avoid the camera knowing someone is recording/taking pictures. The flip off was unnecessary, could’ve just settle it there. It’s not a big deal actually.”
- “It’s kind of weird for the man to record a plain and random non-aesthetical view of a mall for few seconds. Something seems suspicious.”
- “That girl has a ‘main character’ syndrome.”
- “He’s also the one at fault, because his camera was focusing on Rafidah for too long. He could’ve filmed other things like the sunset or anything else, instead of recording other people randomly. There could be a misunderstanding from her side as well.”
The video has since been removed from @@Meloooww00’s TikTok and was later replaced with a new one. Watch:
