7 Fabulous Benefits Of Quitting Booze!

We hate to admit it, but quitting alcohol isn’t easy.

Giphy

Not just on Friday nights, but almost every other night (or sometimes, day) – that’s when we just love fueling our bodies with a good amount of booze. Sure, alcohol does make us happy, high and relaxed – but if you look closely, alcohol use has been associated with considerable alterations in people’s health, in both good and bad ways.

The good thing now though is that more and more people are aware of the benefits of refraining from alcohol consumption. Even if they do it only for a month, abstaining from drinking booze can have a significant positive impact on their health and wellbeing. The benefits of quitting alcohol include more than just losing weight. So if you’re really keen on kicking the habit, here are 7 solid benefits you’ll gain.

Sleep Pattern Improves

Giphy

Alcohol is frequently used as a sedative to help people fall asleep, but excessive drinking can have negative effects on the quality and consistency of your sleep owing to headaches, dehydration, and an increased urge to urinate.

You’ll frequently discover that your sleep will be more uninterrupted and of a higher quality when you stop drinking alcohol entirely, or significantly lower your consumption. This will result in you having more energy to devote to other pursuits rather than waking up the next morning feeling sleepy from a night of excessive drinking.

Blood Pressure Reduces

Giphy

Drinking excessively over an extended period of time can cause your blood pressure to reach unsafe levels, which may later result in more serious health issues. Reducing your alcohol intake or quitting permanently will help you lower your blood pressure to a much healthier level and may even lower your risk of developing other conditions like stroke, heart disease, and chronic kidney disease.

Lower Level Of Anxiety & Depression

Giphy

Alcohol is a fairly deceptive depressant; although it may make you feel happy or energetic when you drink it, alcohol actually has a negative effect on your mental health. Alcohol use, especially its heavy consumption, interferes with brain chemicals that maintain mental health, so you may have depressive and anxious sensations after drinking. These feelings are commonly referred to as “beer fear” or “hang-xiety.”

By developing a sober curiosity, your mental health will improve on the times you decide not to drink because alcohol levels won’t impact the chemical equilibrium in your brain. Exercise and other relaxation techniques, like yoga or meditation, are excellent substitutes for alcohol if your dependence on it stems from poor mental health.

You’ll Lose Weight

Giphy

Alcohol consumption has a lot of serious drawbacks, one of which is the heavy calorie count. Because beer and wine are particularly calorie-dense beverages, drinking them excessively increases your risk of weight gain.

You may find that you start to lose weight by cutting back on your alcohol consumption or going completely sober, which will undoubtedly result in further health benefits including a decrease in high blood pressure.

Healthier Skin

Giphy

When consumed in excess, alcohol can cause your body to become more quickly dehydrated, which can result in dry, scaly skin. Additionally, drinking sugary beverages like cocktails might cause outbreaks since they raise hormone levels. When someone starts their sober inquisitive journey, they could discover that spots or dry skin patches start to disappear.

Booze ain’t cheap okay!

Giphy

Think about it – with our cost of living rising each day and with so many commitments we’re already struggling with, the last thing you’ll want is to spend more on something that’s not gonna last. Drinking once in a while is fine but the thing about booze lovers is that they tend to get their hands on a drink whenever they can. This will cause more spending.

Also, the more you consume alcohol, the more energy you’ll use up. Instead of being all energetic and productive, alcohol will lower that energy level. Hence, quitting alcohol will save you a few extra bucks and give you more time and energy to do something better.

You’ll Feel Better Overall

Giphy

Drinking too much interferes with the body’s normal functions, which can leave you feeling drowsy, lethargic, and generally ill the next day. You could discover that you have more energy to do things that you normally wouldn’t, like being more active or spending more time outside the house with friends, during the times that you choose not to drink, whether it’s sometimes or permanently. If you find yourself craving alcohol while you are sober, consider switching to a soft drink or non-alcoholic version instead. You will undoubtedly feel better after a restful night’s sleep and a morning without a hangover.
