It’s always a pleasant surprise when we find out about foreign celebrities visiting Malaysia, let alone hear them talk about their experience when they lived here! One of those celebrities is American actress, Awkwafina – who recently revealed she used to live in Kuala Lumpur.

The actress, whose real name is Nora Lum, was recently interviewed by the local cinema chain TGV, alongside actor Jacob Trembley to promote their new movie, “The Little Mermaid”. Along with the interview, the two also did a short promo video for TGV, encouraging viewers to catch the film at the cinema chain. It was during this promo video that the 35-year-old briefly revealed she used to live in Kuala Lumpur.

In the video, the actress encouraged viewers to watch the new movie at TGV before adding that she used to watch movies at the cinema chain when she lived here. She also gave a quick shout-out to Malaysian viewers, saying, “Hi Malaysia! I love you and I miss you.” While she did not reveal when exactly she lived here, the actress did star in “Crazy Rich Asians”, which was filmed in Malaysia and Singapore a few years back.

This is not the first time the New York-born comedian showed her love for KL because, in an interview for Harper’s BAZAAR’s “Food Diaries” series, she talked about the food she enjoyed in the city. In the video, she said she loved Hainanese chicken rice and roti canai, adding that she’s obsessed with the latter. The actress later stated, “KL was definitely a cool food city for me.”

We totally agree with her on that last statement! And we hope she’ll be able to return soon and indulge in all the delicious Malaysian treats again.
