We thought that we would only hear about siblings arguing about anything related to inheritance or properties in dramas or movies. Turns out, this happens in real life too.
Not long ago, a man from Johor Bahru wrote on a Facebook group requesting legal advice. In short, he wants to know how he can remove someone’s name on a joint house contract through legal means or other means. And what’s ridiculous is the reason he gave for asking this — he simply did not want to live with his sister after he gets married.
According to the post, the man is actually an older brother with a younger sister. The both of them are currently living in a house together which their mother bought 9 years ago. About 85% of the house loan is paid off by the mother. He later mentioned that he has a girlfriend and is looking to marry her and have kids.
“After all, when a man gets married, it’s not very appropriate and does not look very nice to have your younger sister still living with you.” For this reason, the man asked the sister to find a house she can afford outside as he did not want to sit around and wait till the day the sister decides to move out after getting married.
As expected, the sister is unwilling to do so, which resulted in them arguing. The brother then took this issue online and ended his post by asking, “Is there a legal means or way to delete another’s name on a joint property?” Shortly after the post went live, it immediately received a lot of criticisms from netizens. While the man has since taken down the post, a netizen was able to repost a screenshot of it.
Netizens were unsatisfied with the brother for wanting to kick his sister out of the house and looking for a way to remove her name from the joint property without permission. Even those that rarely commented stood up and said their piece.
- “I rarely comment, but I’m unable to hold it in anymore after reading this article. One word… ‘Scumbag’.”
- “No matter how much I scroll, all I get was that the house was bought and paid by the mother. Even though I have no idea who paid off the leftover 15%, but saying that after a man gets married, it’s not appropriate to live with the sister, why not move away yourself? If you have the time to think about how to drive someone else away, why not buy a house yourself outside? Act like the man that you are.”
- “I was always jealous of other people having an older brother doting on them, at this moment, I’m grateful that I don’t have an older brother.”
