According to last year’s statistics, 402,626 road accidents were recorded in Malaysia from January to September with 4,379 of those accidents being fatal. Back in 2019, the Ministry of Transport reported that approximately 1.35 million people die in road crashes each year.
Unfortunately, even if one is careful, accidents can still occur out of nowhere. Earlier today (Friday, 12th May), a horrific accident was reported to have happened on the Second Penang Bridge.

Multiple photos and videos of an accident involving a lorry and a car on the Sultan Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah Bridge, also known as the Second Penang Bridge, have been circulating everywhere on social media. According to reports, the occurrence caused major traffic congestion as the lorry’s cargo load has been detached from the vehicle, blocking one of the bridge’s double lanes.
As seen in the video above, the car involved in the accident suffered severe damage, especially on its rear end, nearly completely destroyed from the impact. At the time of writing, there is currently no information on whether or not the driver inside the vehicle survived the horrific crash.
The accident apparently caused the lorry to go over the barricade that’s separating the motorcycle and car lanes. According to the Penang Kini Facebook page, an eye witness claimed that the car had a flat tire but the driver did not park their car properly at the side of the road, which then later caused the collision with the lorry. This information is yet to be confirmed.
At the time of writing, Penang authorities as well as the Fire and Rescue Department have yet to release an official statement regarding the terrifying ordeal. For now, we can only hope that no one was seriously injured in the accident.
