The topic of labelling a group of people or an establishment using income classifications can be quite sensitive, especially when it’s directed to those within the B40 category. Previously, a TikToker was criticised for labelling a food court in Mid Valley Megamall as a B40 eatery.
Recently, another influencer received backlash from netizens after posting a video that appears to be throwing shade at people of the B40 group. Watch it here:

Ryzal Ibrahim, famously known as part of the Durian Kimchi duo with his wife Maryam You Narae (유나래), recently posted a “Day In The Life” video on his TikTok channel. In the video above, the entrepreneur portrayed the “life” of a B40 by dressing up in branded clothing as well as wearing flashy accessories to go buy excessive amounts of groceries at the supermarket with this family.
The background music used was Ukay’s “Di Luar Kemampuanku” which can be roughly translated to “Beyond My Capabilities” or “Beyond My Affordability”. Netizens were furious over the viral post as the portrayal and song used insinuated that those with low income tend to splurge on a lifestyle above their means.
Many criticised the father-of-one for the insensitive video while others reminded him that God can easily take all his success away in an instant. A few came for the YouTuber’s defence by saying that his video can be served as a reminder to not overspend money on unnecessary items.
One angry netizen commented that even dogs don’t like to be chained, referring to the luxurious necklace the businessman was wearing in the video. Ryzal responded to the backlash by taking off the necklace, which also served as a phone holder, and throwing it in the trash bin, which further angered more netizens.
At the time of writing, the public figure has yet to comment any further regarding the negative feedback he’s been receiving for the two videos. What do you think about all this?
