Dating apps have started to boom these recent years. It is pretty common for someone to have downloaded dating apps and met a couple of potential partners there. And surely, you’ve heard news on people finding true love or even getting scammed through dating apps.
Recently, local My FM DJ and content creator KAKA (杨鎧嘉) exposed that she has actually ‘swiped’ upon a male Malaysian influencer’s profile on a dating app. That in itself is nothing special, but the surprising part is that this influencer actually has a girlfriend. She also shared a personal story of hers on meeting said person on the app.
In a variety talk show hosted by famous Malaysian YouTuber Chan Phei Yong (培永), KAKA was invited as a guest to the show to talk about dating apps. Having been on dating apps for a couple of years now, the DJ said that she has come across a lot of different men on the app, even individuals who are already in relationships.
“I’ve seen a certain someone from our (entertainment) circle who has a girlfriend, and he was still on the dating app.” She did not revealed who this male influencer is on the show, however, she did ‘spill the tea’ to Phei Yong. The host, upon hearing who it was, said that he remembers this influencer to be extremely loving with the girlfriend when in public.
Other than that, KAKA also shared that she matched with a 30-year-old man before on a dating app and the both of them have reached the stage of comfortability through talking. They even met up a couple of times and the comfortable feeling is still present in real life. “I thought we might become a thing and I’ve been thinking far into the future already.”
Two months into this situationship, during a casual chatting session in the car, the man’s phone rang. He then quickly picked up the phone and acted all guilty. Through the phone call, KAKA could make out that the caller was a woman asking if the man would be going home to eat. This so-called ‘date’ ended abruptly with the man lying that the caller was a man.
Like any other woman, KAKA was heartbroken after realised she was the third party. Through the power of social media, she even found out that the man was actually married and had a baby. What’s shocking was that the period of their situationship was actually during the wife’s pregnancy.
As much as you’ll see stories online about people finding their one true love through dating apps, stories of people trying to trick others into a relationship, sex or even money are quite common as well.
Therefore, be very careful when swiping on dating apps, you’ll never know who you’ll meet or come across. Don’t let their good looks fool you into something that could scar you for life.
