All policemen have a responsibility when they take up the badge. That, of course, includes traffic police. While they mostly watch the roads for people and obstacles that endanger road users, we don’t think many expected a large python to be on the list!
On Wednesday (26th April), traffic police in Pontian, Johor had a surprising encounter while patrolling. Instead of the usual debris found on the road, these policemen came across a large python instead! Thankfully, they took pains to move the python out of the way, both for its sake and for the sake of road users.
“The safety of road users is always prioritised, especially during this festive season,” a post uploaded on the Pontian District Police’s Facebook read. They praised the two officers involved, Corporal Hirrul Fitri and Corporal Basri from the Federal Traffic Investigation and Enforcement (BSPTD), alleging they had done so to ensure the safety of road users, especially motorcyclists.
The post also included a video of one of the men pulling the python off the road by the tail. The snake did not seem to struggle at being manhandled and went without a fight. The officer then dragged it to a plantation by the roadside and assumedly left it there to live out the rest of its life in peace.
Kudos to the traffic police for taking action when seeing the python. Things might have ended badly for it and road users otherwise. Hopefully it’ll take more care in crossing the road in the future!
