Guinness World Records has always been known to document record-breaking achievements around the world. From bizarre achievements to commendable ones, being in the Guinness Book of Records is truly something to take pride in.
For a smaller peninsular country like Malaysia, making into the Guinness World Records is definitely worth talking about. Only a small percentage of our people have made it into the book. On 23th April 2023, Mohd Syahidan Alias achieved the Guinness World Records for completing the 2023 TCS London Marathon in his traditional baju Melayu.
The 36-year-old had previously made into the Guinness Book of Records for running in the 2019 Sydney Marathon wearing a Jalur Gemilang costume.
More commonly known as Edan Syah, he shared the great news of his achievement through his social medias yesterday exclaiming, “Mission accomplish! We achieved the mission below 3-hours; as the Guinness World Record Holder: the Fastest Full Marathon (42.2km) in Traditional Malay Dress (Male) with a time of 2 hours 49 minutes 22 seconds!”
He later went on to thank Bulan Bintang, the boutique that made Edan’s traditional baju Melayu. “Thank you once again to Bulan Bintang for the trust and opportunity in accepting my ‘out of the box’ idea for this project. You dare to create a new benchmark what is possible and do the impossible.”
Lastly, he concluded his post by showing gratitude. “Thank you my manager, Jolene Hong, for your faith and all the arrangements with GWR (Guinness World Record) and team Bulan Bintang. We have done our best to make baju Melayu great again at 2023 TCS London Marathon! Thank you for your prayers and supporting the journey. What’s next?”
Upon seeing the post, netizens were proud of the world record holder’s achievement and congratulated him for making history and making Malaysians proud.
- “Congratulation bro. We’re proud that you brought Bulan Bintang along with your journey. We are so happy!”
- “You did it big Edan, keep inspiring.”
- “Congratulations. Selamat Hari Raya all the way from Malaysia.”
- “Hey my man congrats! So proud of you. My dad and I were talking about it and it was exciting. Can’t wait to see you again.”
- “Congrats Edan Syah! Keep inspiring us to be like you. Selamat Hari Raya.”
Thank you for being an inspiration constantly, Edan! We hope that you will never lose your spark in always wanting to achieve great things in life. Wishing you a Selamat Hari Raya, and to everyone who is celebrating this special season with their loved ones.
