Marriage is a bond and commitment formed between two parties that really love each other. No one would see marriage as a business, because in all honesty, it really is not. There is no real give and take in a marriage, it is a partnership where two people work together and help each other for the rest of their lives.
However, in the case of Japanese top actress, Erika Sawajiri (沢尻エリカ), and filmmaker Tsuyoshi Takashiro (高城剛), the definition of marriage may not be as we know it.
Recently, Erika’s premarital contract with her ex-husband became the subject of discussion on a South Korean TV Show, “Love of 7.7 Billion.” At the time of their marriage in 2009, their age difference of 22 years became a hot topic among the people. In December 2013, the couple divorced and the contract they had signed before their marriage came to light.
According to the contract, Takashiro would have to pay 332.7k MYR (75k USD) to Erika if he went on a date with another woman, and twice the amount if he had sex with the woman. The contract also specified the amount of times the couple can have sex with each other per month.
Each month, the contract only allowed them to have sex 5 times. Should the amount surpass 5, the husband needs to pay the wife 16.4k MYR (3.7k USD) for each additional time. The panelists for the show was in shocked upon hearing about the contents of the contract. “Are they doing business or marriage?”
Making the headlines once before in 2019 for possession of drugs, and later being sentence to prison, Erika continued to be a heated discussion among netizens and online communities.
If the prenuptial contract between the Japanese actress and her ex-husband was not revealed to the media, it is truly hard to believe that a marriage happened under the terms of the contract. A contract like this should only be a thing in TV dramas, not real life.
