Former national shuttler Goh Liu Ying (吴柳莹) recently shared some good news. The beloved former mixed-doubles player is getting married! That’s not all, in addition to gaining a husband, Liu Ying is adding one more member to their new family. Yup, she’s also pregnant!
Previously, Goh Liu Ying made news when she revealed she and her mixed-doubles partner Chan Peng Soon (陈炳橓) split up. At that point, Datuk Lee Chong Wei had teased Liu Ying about finding a partner to settle down with. Well, over a year later, Liu Ying shared that she had found someone and was starting a family with them!
The 33-year-old made the announcement via her socials yesterday (18th April). “You had me at HELLO
. (I) met the right person at the right time. (It’s like) pressing the fast forward button. (I’m) very lucky, because of you (we have a) +1,” Liu Ying shared, adding photos of wedding ring and two pairs of hands embracing her stomach.
Goh Liu Ying later shared why she had emphasized “(meeting) the right person at the right time”. The ex-shuttler revealed on her Instagram Story that previously, her relationship hadn’t gone well. Liu Ying mentioned betrayals and disagreements, which led her to believe she had met the wrong person at the wrong time. “I even thought about staying single forever, (thinking) it wouldn’t be so bad,” she admitted.
But things apparently changed when she met her man. “(You usually think) that what a woman wants is a strong man, but you know, all she wants is a man who will take care of her, who’s willing to think from her viewpoint, who’s willing to work hard for her, and a man who is willing to give her an ordinary and stable life,” Goh Liu Ying said. The 34-year-old marveled at the “down to-earth commitment” she had found, adding, “I think this is what love looks like.”
Liu Ying has yet to reveal more about her husband-to-be, but her fans and friends are already excited. Her socials have been flooded with congratulatory messages with many delighted she has found a partner for life. Even Datuk Lee Chong Wei agreed with her words, and joined the crowd in congratulating her.
