Today is finally the day! After greeting some fans upon her arrival at Subang Airport yesterday (Monday, 17th April), Tan Sri Dato Michelle Yeoh is currently attending her homecoming and fan-meeting event at Pavilion Kuala Lumpur.
But before the official event starts later this evening, the Oscar-winner spoke with the media during a private press conference where she got emotional when talking about her journey to the Academy Awards.
@hypemalaysia #MichelleYeoh was in tears when expressing her gratitude to Malaysians. She also explained why the #Oscars journey was so tough.
The Malaysian icon was in tears when she expressed her gratitude to all her fans around the world, especially the ones from her home country. “I heard the roar and happiness from all across the world to Los Angeles so I thank all of you for having been on that journey with me. I felt your support and strength,” she said while trying to calm herself.
The “Everything Everywhere All At Once” star also explained how and why the journey to the Oscars was difficult and lonely, saying, “We were in completely new territory. None of us were ever nominated before so we had no idea what to expect or how the whole journey was going to be like”. She also revealed that she felt more anxious as she remembered that her family was watching back in KL.
“At that moment, it suddenly struck me that my mom and family were watching back home and there were almost 400 people there so if they don’t call out my name, what’s going to happen in that hall??” said the 60-year-old before adding that she felt extremely grateful for everything that has happened.
@hypemalaysia No thanks! #MichelleYeoh DOES NOT want to be a director. Here’s why:
After sharing her experience at the Academy Awards, the actress was asked if she ever considered directing or producing movies in the future to which she answered, “As a director? No, cause directors have no life and I love my life too much.” The Ipoh-born star explained that being a director means fully investing and committing to the project and having to know everything and be everywhere all at once.
With that being said, Michelle is very open to producing movies as she has done so before. “Now I am able to branch out more cause people started to listen and appreciate the things we can bring forward as Malaysians and the stories we have to make that bridge.” Who knows, perhaps one day, the Malaysian legend might produce or star in a local project in the future.
