Paying to enter a washroom is not a concept that is ‘normal’ per se. Who would pay just to use the washroom? These kinds of washrooms, normally known as ‘luxury’ washrooms, are typically found in shopping malls like Suria KLCC and The Gardens Mall.
Apparently, you can also find paid toilets in Central Market aka Pasar Seni. After paying a fee of 50 cents, only then are you allowed to enjoy its washroom facilities.
At first glance, the entrance to the washroom seemingly looks like the entrance to your everyday public transport or a theme park. Drop a 50 cents coin into the machine then you’ll be able to turn the steel handles to enter the washroom. The interiors of the washroom look just like a normal washroom, much to the dismay of netizens as most were expecting to see something very ‘atas‘ (sophisticated).
In case you don’t have any coins on you, the authorities were considerate enough to provide a coin changer as well. You’ll be able to change your notes into small change in order to gain access to the ‘luxury’ toilet. In a time where most things are cashless these days, what if one only has their e-wallet with them?
Upon seeing the Facebook post of this paid toilet, netizens were intrigued and commented on the matter. Most of them were poking fun at the concept of a pay-to-enter washroom.
- “Pee in luxury.”
- “The steel handles can’t detect your height. FOC.”
- “Not ‘atas’ enough. Got 1 place use cashless to enter the toilet.”
- “50 cents per hour or minute or second?”
- “What if that gate bar malfunctions while you can’t hold any longer to PANGSAI (poop)?“
If it was you, would you be willing to pay a fee of 50 cents to enter this ‘atas’ toilet in Central Market?
