Food Review: We’re Wild For The New Grill & Bar, Ferria KL @ Westin KL!

Kuala Lumpur has a pretty vibrant nightlife, especially near the city center. Of course, it can be difficult to choose a place to chill, drink and munch on a night out, thanks to the overwhelming number of options in the area. Well, take our word for it when we tell you that you should always make a beeline for the new grill-and-bar; Ferria KL.

Accessible via a side door at the Westin Kuala Lumpur hotel, Ferria forms a striking sight against the city. The eatery offers a wild getaway for its visitors with its lush greenery and colourful patterned motifs, and its delicious offerings, of course.

For starters, we simply have to recommend the Jungle Jewel. It may look like a simple bowl of corn, but it is surprisingly tasty and makes for a nice snack while waiting for the rest of the food! The grilled corn balances a smoky and sweet flavour which is a delightful combination, enhanced by savouriness of the added chicken lard.

Another equally delicious delight would be the Adventurous Prawn. The tiger prawns deep fried in Greek Pastry is a delectable crunchy dish, that appropriately whets your appetite. While the prawn taste is evident in each bite, it isn’t overly strong. The wasabi mayo sauce accompanying the dish is also a good pair for the deep fried prawns as they add a little kick, thanks to the wasabi.

But, if you’re looking for something lighter, you can’t go wrong with their Watermelon Poppers and Untamed Seared Tuna Salad! The Watermelon Poppers offer a sweet start to your meal, while the salad works for anyone who wants a healthy option.

Speaking of light, if you’re not a heavy eater, you should definitely go for the XL River Monster Roll. The freshly made milk brioche combined with the mixture of giant freshwater prawn provides a savoury bite each time, with a subtle spiciness. Accompanied by a side of crispy French beans, it is definitely a good dish if you’re not too hungry, especially after all the starters.

However, for all the meat lovers, the Rocky Wild Chicken or the Lamb Croissie may be more to your liking. Chock full of spices, the Rocky Wild Chicken is a tender and juicy grilled meat dish that has a strong taste and leaves a stronger impression. As for the Lamb Croissie, it’s so soft and tender, that it will melt in your mouth. With or without the sour cream, the Lamb Croissie is definitely not to be missed.

Now, it’s time to move on to something more filling. We were able to try two pasta dishes; the Tarzan Arrabiata and the Oceanic Olio. The Tarzan Arrabiata lives up to its name with a very strong tomato base and a slight spiciness. Served with a generous helping of soft shell crab, mussels and tiger prawns, the Tarzan Arrabiata will certainly fill you up.

The Oceanic Olio is slightly spicier, but still light and easy to eat. The tender and juicy scallops enhanced the dish further. Still, the main attraction of the dish has to be the giant freshwater prawn served with the pasta. It definitely encourages you to dig in and enjoy yourself!

But, if you’re looking for meals to share, you can’t go wrong with pizza! Their Wild-Spiced Lamb pizza is large enough for two with plenty of toppings and cheese. We also recommend adding on a side to share; either the Jungle Branches or the Zucchini Fries. The battered and fried veggies make a surprisingly tasty snack, especially dipped in wasabi mayo.

How do you end a meal? Why, with desserts of course! If you like pineapple, the Grilled Crystal Pineapple is a must-have. The grilled pineapple is tart, but a scoop of ice cream balances out the taste. The vanilla butter crumble adds an even sweeter note to the whole dessert. On the other hand, their Wild Expedition Tiramisu is wonderfully rich, in both coffee and cocoa powder. The lemon zest also ensures a lovely aftertaste so it doesn’t feel heavy on the tongue. It definitely offers a nice finish to a scrumptious meal.

From a variety of cocktails to plain liquor, Ferria has got you covered on drinks for your fun night out! Their mocktails are nothing to scoff at either, each offering a different accompaniment to your meal. Be it something refreshing or sweet, their drinks menu is definitely worth exploring to wet your palate!

If you’re in Bukit Bintang and want a place to hang with friends, Ferria KL is definitely worth checking out.
